ChatGPT’s Pesky Human Problems

ChatGPT has been utterly synonymous with AI in just about everyone’s mind since November 2022. The waitlist exceeded over 1mil, growing to over 100mil users and 1.8bil monthly users.

And with numbers that big, no one is surprised competition has arrived.

But with this much usage so quickly, there have been a few glitches in the matrix. For example, OpenAI is disabling its Browse feature – meaning, it’s not displaying the full text of websites due to content ownership concerns.

Remember back in school when you copied something word for word and didn’t even bother changing a single letter? Any teacher worth their salt would have failed your assignment due to laziness, intellectual theft, and academic disrespect.

And then when you grow up, real life is similar – posting someone else’s content without their consent is generally frowned upon.

ChatGPT had this problem and OpenAI is pausing this feature until further notice. We’re thinking that browsing will be back, but with some adjustments. Like your teacher said, “cite your sources!”

Google Bard got a big update

What the heck is a Google Bard? Well, the short answer is it’s Google’s AI platform that launched at the end of March 2023. Bard literally means “poet”, showcasing its linguistic prowess and is also a type of character for Dungeons and Dragons, showcasing its nerdiness.

While it may appear like Bard could be Google’s reactionary attempt to keep up with ChatGPT, Bard has actually been in the works for years –

Google gave public access to its deep learning model in 2017 and Language Model (LaMDA) in 2021.

Bard just got a big update – here’s a quick demo of what’s new:

Bard’s not the only one trying to give ChatGPT a run for its money. Yesterday Elon Musk announced the launch of his version of an AI platform, xAI. He’s hinted at this for a while, but now we little people can get on Musk’s level and finally ‘Understand the Universe’. While not technically a part of Twitter or Tesla, xAI will undoubtedly benefit from being in the Musk family network.

We’ll see if Musk gets another W with xAI, or if it makes as much sense as naming your kid X Æ A-Xii. Like so many things … wait for it … time will tell.
