Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, was abruptly ousted on Friday due to concerns about the company's technology risks and Altman's perceived inattention to potential harms.

The board, comprising six members, cited Altman's lack of consistent communication as a factor.

The fallout from Altman's departure was swift and chaotic. Greg Brockman, OpenAI's president and a board member, resigned in protest, signaling internal dissent.

The dismissal triggered chaos, with Microsoft, a major investor, expressing alarm.

After unsuccessful negotiations and the appointment of an interim CEO, almost all 800 employees threatened to quit unless Altman was reinstated and the board resigned.

Altman Returns

Facing mounting pressure, OpenAI's board announced an "agreement in principle" on Tuesday for Altman's return as CEO, along with Greg Brockman.

The board underwent a significant reshuffle, with Bret Taylor becoming chairman and Lawrence Summers joining.

Departing members included: Ilya Sutskever, Tasha McCauley, and Helen Toner.

The remaining member, Adam D'Angelo, initially played a role in Altman's ouster but later facilitated the talks for his return.
