Cerebras’ New Supercomputer Is So Powerful, It’s Making Other Tech Giants Sweat

Don’t sweat the small stuff.

But you can totally sweat the big stuff.

Imagine a supercomputer so powerful, it could solve the world's most complex problems in seconds.

That's the kind of power Cerebras is bringing to the table with its new supercomputer with a Waferscale Engine-2 processor, 4 exaFLOPS and 54 million cores.

This bad boy can do 2 exaflops per second, which is like a bazillion operations per second. That's a one followed by eighteen zeros.

That's double the speed of the previous record holder, and it's only gonna get faster.

So what's next for Cerebras? They're expanding to Austin and Ashville, and they're gonna build even more supercomputers. The goal is a supercomputer system called Conodor Galaxy until it’s a total of nine supercomputers capable of 36 exaflops in total.

The competition is fierce, with big guns like Amazon, Google, Meta, and Microsoft in the ring.

But from the looks of it, Cerebra is having no trouble standing on their own 2 exaflops.

They know the chip market is hot, and they're gonna time it perfectly.

AI Giants Make Giant Commitment

Amazon, Anthropic, Google, Inflection, Meta, Microsoft, and OpenAI were all in the same room together recently.

What would be a big enough reason to bring them all to the table?

A voluntary commitment to manage the risks of AI.

The commitments include conducting internal and external security testing, sharing information on managing AI risks, investing in cybersecurity, and prioritizing research on AI's societal risks.

“It’s a big deal to bring all the labs together, all the companies. This is supercompetitive and we wouldn’t come together under other circumstances,” said Mustafa Suleyman, the CEO and Co-Founder of Inflection AI.

While this makes for good PR, both for the companies and Biden administration, this commitment means very little without impactful action. Is anyone else picking up hints of The German-Polish Non-Aggression Pact Of 1934?

**They're saying they'll do all this stuff to manage the risks of AI, but we all know what that means: **

They'll make some PowerPoint presentations, hire some consultants, and then go back to business as usual.

But hey, at least they're trying, right? Right …

Bing AI on Chrome and Safari

Consider the wise words of Elle Woods: “If the fabric doesn’t work with you, don’t work with it.”

Why am I bringing up this classic from Legally Blonde 2?

Because Microsoft seems to have also taken this advice to heart. If most users are on Chrome and Safari, how will Bing AI get more traffic? Go to them on Chrome and Safari.

If only it were this simple. Bing on Chrome and Safari is not without significant flaws.

Microsoft: "Hey, Chrome users, we made our Bing AI chatbot available on your browser, but we're gonna make it really annoying to use unless you download Edge."

"Why would you do that?"

"Because we're Microsoft, and we're still salty about Internet Explorer."

So, if you're a Chrome user and you want to try out Bing AI chatbot, be prepared for a lot of limitations and pop-ups.

But if you're willing to put up with that, you can get a taste of what Microsoft thinks the future of chatbots is gonna be.

And who knows, maybe you'll even like it enough to switch to Edge.

But I wouldn't count on it.
