Look at you!

I bet you woke up this morning with a big ol’ smile on your face, put on your rose-colored glasses and drank your glass half full of OJ.

You. rock.

Why do you rock? Because you see the beauty of a world assisted by AI without being naïve to its potential problems. Check out the results of yesterday’s poll:

🟨⬜️⬜️⬜️⬜️⬜️ 🙏 AI is our savior.
⬜️⬜️⬜️⬜️⬜️⬜️ 💩 AI is our doom.
🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩 🤪 AI is both our savior and destroyer - all aboard, Team Olaf!

Mom would be proud.

Innovation vs. Creativity

Thinking is hard.

Thinking excellently and creatively is even harder.

For AI, it seems to come all too easily. Remember when we said AI tested top 1% for original creative thinking?

Well for those of us who have come to make a living out of writing, the threat of AI is not appreciated. Hence, the writers’ strike in Hollywood halting an extensive list of productions. More than just a threat, AI allegedly has stolen the creative talents of comedian Sarah Silverman, fan fiction writer Kit Loffstadt, and others, resulting in multiple lawsuits.

It’s pretty clear that Open AI and Google have not found a way to balance respecting creators’ content with their mega data AI processors. If we don't act now to regulate generative AI, intellectual property theft could become the norm and we may never be able to change it.

Filmmaker Alex Winter, who has directed several cautionary documentaries on emerging tech and is a member of all three guilds, supports extreme guidelines given the unknowns:

“I think we really need to be thinking about coming up with these things from a labor standpoint in terms of very aggressive demands. We are not interested in you implementing these technologies with our work at all. My concern is that if we give them a little bit of room in the door, they’re just going to knock the door open. Because you just don’t know how these technologies work”

Consider Mark Zuckerberg - the sole reason we’re even bringing up his name is because of Eduardo Saverin.

Eduardo was his roommate and Eduardo had a great idea.

An idea so good that eventually Mark would have $90+ bil in the bank, an endless supply of on-point gray tees, and a relentless desire to tape over webcams.

What does Eduardo have? A character reference on The Social Network.

Life is not fair, get used to it; as Bill Gates would say. Gary Kildall would probably put it differently.

Moral of the story? Future AI regulation will undoubtedly include creative and data use protections, but just how much is the question.

User Data Protection in India

Try to use ChatGPT or Bard in India and soon you may be getting ‘access denied’.

India’s government has drafted the Persona Data Protection Bill (PDPB) which could potentially shield personal data from AI-based scraping, especially for targeted advertising.

Now advertisers will have to obtain explicit consent before trying to sell you a targeted ad from Temu.

Online gaming could also be KO’d with a 28% Goods and Services Tax (GST), which would trickle over to the fintech ecosystem.

While there’s no doubt that content creators and site users need their data protected, it doesn’t seem like anyone has a viable solution as to how that works effectively. No button is clicked faster than the “I agree to terms of service” button; am I right?
